Description

The expectation of users to have mobile delivery and rich, engaging experiences has challenged government and private businesses and will continue to be a major consideration in delivering information, products, and services to their clients. How can these experiences also be accessible to users with impairments and disabilities? This one-day, hands-on, interactive workshop will teach you that “accessible” doesn’t mean “less engaging” while bringing clarity and focus to your current and future accessibility plans.

Participants will leave with the knowledge, examples, and tools to help them meet user expectations head-on and develop strategies for more engaging and efficient accessible workflows.

Introduction (9:00am – 9:20am)

  • Welcome/Introduction to Eliquo

Session: Designing Accessible Mobile Experiences (9:20am – 11:45pm)

Summary

With the ever-growing mobile market and increasing web traffic from mobile devices, the need for information and services to be delivered and consumed within a mobile-friendly platform is paramount. In this session, participants will learn how to identify the purpose of their mobile deliveries and develop an accessible mobile platform strategy to meet the needs of their users.

  • Defining the context of your user’s mobile experience
  • Mobile experience best practices including responsive design, designing for interactions, and using mobile exclusive features
  • Designing accessible mobile experiences

Session: Accessibility Tools, Resources, and Repositories (1:15pm – 2:30pm)

Summary

Consistent delivery of information, products, and services is a key component of accessibility and user experience. Style Guides, Standards, and Templates will assist your teams’ efforts, increase efficiency when producing content and reduce duplicate work when solving design, accessibility, and user experience issues. In this session, participants will learn to identify key types of content and how to develop standards, guides, templates, and repositories that will accommodate the various types of content and improve accessibility workflows.

  • Creating content using the accessibility tools

Session: Developing Accessible Rich and Interactive Experiences (2:50pm – 4:30pm)

Summary

Accessible doesn’t mean less exciting or engaging. With users expecting more engaging and interactive content deliveries than ever before, the need for accessibly designed rich experiences has grown. In this session, participants will learn to create strategies for inclusive engaging content and when to implement progressive enhancement and alternate presentations.

  • “One conforming version” and “alternate presentation”
  • Standard rich content including charts, graphs and tables
  • Accessible info graphics, tactile graphics, and alternatives
  • Accessible audio, video, and animations
  • Interactive content and apps
